Son víctimas.La novela se centra, precisamente, en la historia de una abogada experta en resolver problemas de familia, tanto en casos de ruptura como de maltrato, que, casi sin darse cuenta, acaba siendo víctima por parte de su pareja de los ataques que ella resuelve, pero que no detecta en ella misma.La abogada encuentra en la práctica del running con una amiga una forma de contar su problema y buscar la forma de salir de él, aunque el desarrollo de los acontecimientos en la novela se complica por el carácter posesivo de su pareja y la negativa de este a acabar con su matrimonio de ninguna manera, aun a sabiendas del sufrimiento de su pareja.
